April is National Volunteer Week (April 18-2), so it's the perfect time to get involved and make a difference in our community in Round Rock and North Austin. Williamson County Habitat for Humanity is a great place to start. Volunteers can help with construction, office management, customer service, and donations at ReStore, a second-hand building materials store. The Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit organization with volunteer musicians.
Founding member John Gordon says that only a few members have played professionally and the rest are excellent non-professionals. The orchestra performs eight concerts in Williamson County each season, plus one at Fort Hood for troops and their families during Christmas. Volunteers can also serve on the Board of Directors of the Williamson County Symphony Orchestra. Some volunteer tasks may require background checks, particularly those that will place volunteers close to children under guardianship.
Williamson County's United Way focuses on improving people's education, income, health and basic needs. CASA of Travis County speaks on behalf of abused or abandoned children by empowering the community to offer themselves as advocates for them in the judicial system. Equine Rehabilitation Central Texas provides opportunities for volunteers to participate in its therapeutic horseback riding program, Hearts Therapeutic Riding. Meals on Wheels Central Texas volunteers deliver meals and offer home repairs, pet care, and other services to older adults and people with disabilities in the community. The Williamson County Children's Defense Center assists abused children, family members who have not committed crimes, and professionals who are dedicated to intervention, investigation, prosecution and treatment options related to child abuse cases.
Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter provides care for homeless animals and helps community members find pets for adoption. LEEF needs people interested in serving the community as board members or as volunteers in any of its programs, which include early childhood literacy and the creation of a culture ready for college and career among students in the Leander Independent School District. CASA of Williamson County offers trained and court-appointed volunteers who advocate for the best interests of abused or abandoned children on their journey to a safe and permanent home. Volunteering is an excellent way to give back to your community while gaining valuable experience. Whether you're looking for a one-time opportunity or something more long-term, there are plenty of ways to get involved in Williamson County. So take this National Volunteer Week as an opportunity to explore all the ways you can make a difference!.
