This gathering has become a WCSO tradition geared for the entire family – it is a time to get together in a relaxed environment to eat good food, play fun games, and socialize.

Dr. Thomas E. Rainey, the symphony’s music director and conductor, will lead a full orchestra in presenting selections from each of the ten years of the orchestra’s existence.

The Program

The concert will highlight ‘Petite Bourree’, the first selection ever performed by the orchestra.

Other selections include Robert W. Smiths ‘Into the Storm’ written to commemorate the powerful 1993 winter storm that brutalized the eastern United States, Sousa’s ‘Washington Post March’, Grainger’s ‘Mock Morris’, and ‘Belle of the Ball’ by Leroy Anderson.

Featured also will be our entire horn section performing Cohen’s ‘Horns to Hunt’.

A very special feature will be ‘The Return’, composed and dedicated to the orchestra by the world renowned composer, Dr. M. L. Daniels.

As an added treat, Dr. Daniels will be conducting the orchestra in the world premier performance of his composition.

Plan to attend for an evening of entertaining music for the entire family.

After performing a free concert for the troops and their families at Fort Hood on Saturday, December 10, the Orchestra returns to Williamson County performing in a joint concert with the Leander High School Choir at the high school’s magnificent Don Tew Performing Arts Center on Friday December 16 followed by a performance in the gorgeous sanctuary of St William Catholic Church in Round Rock on Saturday, December 17.

Hear how Christmas melodies were woven together for the Boston Pops, dance to a little Nutcracker, shout Hallelujah, bounce around in a Brazilian sleigh, roast a few chestnuts, and Jingle like Souza would do it – what A Jubilant Christmas concert this will be.

About the Program 
“A Jubilant Christmas” will gloriously open the concert.

Listen to several enchanting dances by Tchaikovsky from “The Nutcracker”. Let Leroy Anderson take you on a memorable “Sleigh Ride”, roast some chestnuts on
an open fire (The Christmas Song) and listen to the grand “Overture to Miracle on 34th Street.”

“O Holy Night” – A Fabulous rendition arranged by Calvin Custer
“Brazilian Sleigh Bells” – Originally composed by Percy Faith and arranged & orchestrated by Dr. Rainey
“Hallelujah Chorus” – From “The Messiah” by George Frederick Handel
“A Christmas Festival” – Written specifically for the Boston Pops Orchestra by Leroy Anderson in 1952
